Abby Choi’s Murder: Unraveling the Mystery in a Low-Crime City

alex kwong

Alex Kwong- In a startling turn of events, the ex-husband and former in-laws of the beloved Hong Kong model, Abby Choi, have been detained on suspicion of murder. The discovery of body parts in a refrigerator and a cooking pot has left the city, where violent crime is a rare occurrence, in shock.

Hong Kong Model’s Mysterious Disappearance

Abby Choi, a 28-year-old model with an Instagram following exceeding 100,000, vanished without a trace. Her last Instagram post, dated February 19, showcased a photo shoot she had done with the prestigious fashion magazine, L’Officiel Monaco. The mystery surrounding her disappearance deepened as the days passed.

The Chilling Discovery

On a fateful day, the police made a gruesome discovery. Abby Choi’s dismembered body was found in a refrigerator in a house rented by her former father-in-law, Kwong Kau, in a suburban area of Hong Kong, a mere 30-minute drive from mainland China. To make matters more horrifying, officials also uncovered a young woman’s skull believed to be Choi’s, hidden in a cooking pot found within the same house. Tragically, there was a hole in the skull.

Legal Proceedings and Financial Disputes

The case took a significant turn when Alex Kwong, Abby Choi’s former husband, along with his father Kwong Kau and his brother Anthony Kwong, were charged with murdering Choi. In addition, Alex Kwong’s mother, Jenny Li, faces one count of perverting the course of justice. At present, none of the four suspects have been granted bail, and their lawyers have not made any public comments on the case.

The defendants have yet to enter their pleas, and the case has been adjourned until May. It remains a subject of intense interest for the public.

Behind the Scenes: Financial Disputes

The motive behind this heinous crime appears to be linked to financial disputes involving millions of dollars between Choi and her ex-husband and his family. Police sources have suggested that certain individuals were discontent with how Choi handled her finances, shedding light on the possible catalyst for this horrifying act.

A Community in Shock

The gruesome killing of Abby Choi has sent shockwaves through Hong Kong and mainland China. Hong Kong, known for its low level of violent crime, is grappling with the magnitude of this tragedy. Bernard Cheng, a close friend of Choi, expressed his disbelief, saying, “I haven’t imagined a person who’s so good, so full of love, so innocent, a person who doesn’t do anything bad, will be killed like this. My heart is still heavy. I can’t sleep well.”

A Heartbreaking Family Situation

Choi, who had four children between the ages of 3 and 10, shared her life with two different fathers. Alex Kwong, at 28 years old, was the father of the older two, who are now under the care of Choi’s mother. Choi had subsequently remarried Chris Tam, the father of the younger children, who are now residing with his family. Remarkably, Choi maintained positive relationships with both her family and in-laws, often traveling with both her current and former husbands’ families.

While violent crime remains a rare occurrence in Hong Kong, this case reminds the public of a few shocking incidents in the city’s history. In 2013, a man murdered his parents, and their heads were later discovered in refrigerators. In another infamous 1999 case, a woman was kidnapped and tortured by an organized crime group before her death, and her skull was found hidden within a Hello Kitty doll.

This horrific incident continues to captivate the hearts and minds of Hong Kong and beyond, highlighting the rarity of violent crime in this otherwise peaceful city.
